Brighten Your Look!
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is your gateway to a brighter, more youthful appearance. Whether you’re looking to refresh tired eyes or improve your vision, this procedure can help you achieve a rejuvenated look that reflects your inner vitality. At Max Aesthetics in Turkey, our expert surgeons combine advanced techniques with personalized care to deliver stunning results. Let your eyes shine with confidence and clarity.
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure designed to enhance the appearance of the area around the eyes. This surgery focuses on reducing bagginess from the lower eyelids and removing excess skin from the upper eyelids. As we age, our skin loses elasticity, which, combined with gravity, can result in excess skin collecting around the eyes. This procedure can be performed on either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on the patient’s needs.
During blepharoplasty, a surgeon may remove excess skin, muscle, and fat, but sometimes they opt to reposition these tissues instead. While primarily a cosmetic procedure aimed at improving one’s appearance, blepharoplasty can also have functional benefits. For instance, it can improve vision in patients whose sagging upper eyelids obstruct their visual field. However, it’s important to note that blepharoplasty alone does not address dark circles, crow’s feet, or other facial wrinkles.
During upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon removes excess skin, fat, and occasionally muscle from the upper eyelids. The incision is typically made along the natural crease of the eyelid, ensuring the resulting scar is hidden when the eyes are open. In some cases, a brow lift may be recommended alongside upper blepharoplasty to address drooping eyebrows that contribute to sagging eyelids.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty targets bags and circles under the eyes caused by fat pads in the lower eyelid area. This procedure may involve removing or repositioning fat, tightening muscles and tendons, and removing excess skin. The incisions are usually made just below the lash line or inside the lower eyelid, making them less visible.
Like any surgical procedure, blepharoplasty carries risks. While complications are rare, potential issues include bleeding, infection, dry eyes, abnormal eyelid appearance, difficulty closing the eyes, scarring, and, in very rare cases, loss of vision. Patients should be aware of these risks and discuss them with their surgeon before deciding to proceed with the surgery. Despite these risks, most patients report being satisfied with the results of their blepharoplasty.
After blepharoplasty, patients may experience blurred vision, watery eyes, light sensitivity, double vision, and puffy, numb eyelids. Swelling and bruising, resembling black eyes, are common and can take several weeks to fully subside. To aid recovery, patients should use ice packs on their eyes, sleep with their head elevated, and avoid strenuous activities. It’s also essential to protect the healing eyelid skin from sun exposure by wearing dark sunglasses outdoors.
Recovery from eyelid surgery is generally straightforward, with most patients feeling comfortable going out in public after 10 to 14 days. Full recovery, however, can take a few months. During this time, small scars may be present, but they will gradually fade. Patients should follow their surgeon’s post-operative care instructions closely, which may include using prescribed eye drops, avoiding rubbing the eyes, and refraining from wearing contact lenses for about two weeks.
The results of blepharoplasty can be long-lasting. Upper eyelid surgery typically lasts 5 to 7 years, and in some cases, the results may last a lifetime. Lower eyelid surgery rarely needs to be repeated. Over time, if eyelids begin to sag again, a forehead lift might be recommended instead of another eyelid surgery. Patients who undergo blepharoplasty often report feeling more youthful, rested, and self-confident. For those who had vision problems due to drooping eyelids, the surgery can also improve their field of vision.
It’s important to manage expectations, as patients won’t see the final results immediately. Bruising and swelling may persist for up to two weeks, and scars may take several months to fade. However, once fully healed, patients can enjoy a rejuvenated appearance that reflects their inner vitality.
